Founders and Directors

This is us - Sam and Jade Jackson and our three kids, Indy, Lila, and Atticus.  Make Believers started when we decided to stop talking about making change and just did it.  We quit our jobs, taking with us the wealth of experience we have built up over careers in education spanning almost 20 years and moved to Byron Bay.  Looking for ways to use our skill sets to build community and contribute to our local area, we found that despite the wealth of creativity and innovation in the Byron Shire there were not enough options for children to learn the creative and critical thinking skills they need for life.

As Drama is one of Sam's passions, it made sense to us to start with dramatic play workshops.  Dramatic activity is already a natural part of most children’s lives before they start school in the form of make-believe play, enabling them to make sense of their own identity by exploring meaningful fictional situations that have parallels in the real world.  Children love to move and interact with others and in drama; they are encouraged to move, speak and respond to one another and this helps them develop skills of creativity, communication, empathy, self-confidence, cooperation, leadership, and negotiation.  Most importantly, drama activities are fun!

Our aim is to cater to a diverse range of interests and ways of developing thinking skills by offering a range of workshops/courses over time.  Following our passions and expertise, we are also developing a Learning for Life study skills series to support secondary students in the local area get the best out of themselves in academia, the workplace, and the wider world.

That's what we're about.  Our mission is to help young people connect with their inner voice and harness the unlimited creative capacities that are inside all of us.

Make Believers can help children build the skills they need for the present and the future.  But most of all, what we're interested in building is the self-belief and confidence of every child.
